Now again, about the dudes who are assigned to oversee and mete out justice…the boys in blue. They are indeed a major, perhaps central, component of systemic racism. People appointed to keep the peace have been around as long as society has existed. Having a system in place to deal with unruly or disruptive aspects of a collective group of people is part of the human experience. People are going to screw up. People are going to break the rules. People are going to covet something that doesn’t belong to them, or they’ll try to take more of that to which they’re undeserving.
Being human means accepting the fringe elements of fallibility. Part of who are, must recognize the aberrant nature of individuals who choose to serve themselves, or are mentally ill, or are desperately trying to survive with less access to resources than the average citizen. Obviously it’s wise to have a group allocated to curtail acts of illicit or harmful intent. It’s necessary because humans are volatile and we don’t adequately or proactively create constructive contingencies for those less fortunate of us who are in need or who are unable to distinguish right and wrong.
