Just when we thought the world couldn’t get any worse.
Except that it didn’t really get worse per se. Because incidents like the murder of George Floyd happen all the time.
All. The. Time.
Every day, somewhere in this country, a person of color fears for their life because a white person is considering them. Only white Americans needed blatant in-your-face reminders like the Floyd video to remember how inherent the class division was, and is, between whites and non-whites. And as always, we whiteboys politicized it once again, madly pointing fingers any which way, lamenting riots and demonstrations more than we reviled outright murders, desperately struggling to avoid the pending comeuppance that generations of xenophobic tradition have earned. With the pandemic and the civil unrest after Floyd’s death, the country was a tinderbox.
