The vice presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence was relatively milquetoast. Just the way a guy like Pence likes it. The most scintillating moment happened when a fly landed atop Pence’s dippity-dooed head and stayed there for the better part of two minutes, invoking exactly what you’d expect, a truck load of memes and tweets and one-off bits, including a moderately amusing one from Saturday Night Live wherein Jim Carrey’s Joe Biden riffed on the classic eighties flick The Fly.
Other than that, it was standard debate fare, especially compared to the previous debacle between That Guy and Biden. Both candidates were mostly polite, except for Pence’s clearly coached instruction to talk over Harris and ignore moderator restrictions on timed responses. For a supposedly god-fearing politician who was so tightly wound up he called his wife ‘mother,’ he was and remains a consummate white boy who sold his soul to the devil. No political career is worth hopping on That Guy’s wagon. Ask Guilani.
