Much as my friend K. asserted, the cynic in me prayed people weren’t participating in protest because of their extended time in pandemic quarantine, that they weren’t out marching because it was something to do, since beaches and parks and bars and restaurants and theaters were still closed. One hoped the sentiment lied where it was supposed to be placed.

Now that the fervor of Black Lives Matter has subsided…we know the truth.

White participation was largely a result of lockdown.
